From Youth Ambassador to a Lifetime of Service

Lamont Morehead first connected with No Kid Hungry as a youth ambassador, supporting programs feeding kids while still a college student at Miles College. Through the program, he organized a community garden, supported the Bears Corner Store campus pantry and used his voice on the Rural Child Hunger Summit panel to advocate for students facing food insecurity. Today, Morehead shares his story of how his work and mission continue.

“Since the October 2023 No Kid Hungry blog post featured my work as a youth ambassador, where I coordinated a community garden, supported the Bears Corner Store at Miles College, and spoke on the Rural Child Hunger Summit panel, my journey has continued to grow in meaningful ways.

I graduated from Miles College in 2024 with a B.S. in Business Administration, earning Summa Cum Laude honors. After being ordained as a deacon in the Christian Methodist Episcopal (CME) Church, I was later ordained as an Elder. Right now, I’m in seminary pursuing my Master of Divinity degree so I can serve even more faithfully in my calling.

Although my first job opportunity was in Virginia through a UNCF partnership with Volkswagen, it didn’t come through. I trusted God’s timing. He opened an incredible door for me at Schnellecke Logistics, where I now work as an Operations Supervisor. In June 2025, I was honored as Leader of the Month, a real encouragement that I’m being prepared for even bigger things ahead.

I’m currently in my second year as pastor of Saint Paul CME Church in Jacksonville, Alabama. I remain deeply committed to our youth and the entire community, still carrying the same passion for fighting hunger and meeting needs that first connected me with No Kid Hungry.

In 2025, I’ve been blessed to lead several community initiatives, almost always through strong partnerships and collaboration:

• I hosted a youth game night and a community food drive that brought people of all ages together from our local community and Jacksonville State University (JSU). We made these happen through collaboration with organizations like Faith & Works and surrounding churches, including New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

• I partnered with Jacksonville, Alabama city councilors to host a fireside chat right here at the church, highlighting how important it is for faith leaders to bridge the gap with city officials and address real community issues together.

• We ran a coat drive after one brave young man spoke up for himself and his peers about what they truly needed during the colder months. That moment turned into direct help for families.

• I closed out 2025 with a toy drive that reached over 50 children in the Jacksonville community, bringing joy and meeting practical needs during the holidays. Just like the food drive, this was made possible through partnership with Faith & Works and local churches like New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.

On top of all this, I continue volunteering in areas I’m passionate about, including community development and sustainability, while balancing seminary, pastoral leadership and my role at Schnellecke.”
