Inspired by Detroit Children

This mural was inspired by the children of Detroit. Made possible by No Kid Hungry in partnership with Checkers and Rally's and Hickory Farms.

The flowers in the mural are orchids, which represent love and strength. The artist chose to depict them as full blossoms as well as buds to suggest the passage of time.

Since the pandemic struck, No Kid Hungry has provided over $2 million in grants to Michigan schools and community groups for equipment and supplies to help feed kids.

Artist Desiree Kelley used her own daughter as a model. "I wanted to show the mind of youth and innocence in the fight against this pandemic crisis; being strong and resilient,” she said.

"I wanted to create something hopeful with this mural,” said artist Desiree Kelley. “I wanted to show that rebuilding is near and that hope is around the corner."
