No one knows more about the power of a meal than chefs, and that’s why we were thrilled to see some of our longtime culinary champions recently on a special episode of Food Network’s Chopped.
The episode, which first aired on July 29th, spotlighted No Kid Hungry and was produced and broadcast by No Kid Hungry Core Partner Food Network (part of Warner Bros. Discovery), which has mobilized their engaged and committed audiences to help give kids access to the food they need for more than 10 years.
No Kid Hungry Leadership Council members and chefs Marc Murphy, Brooke Williamson and Cesar Zapata served as judges as they joined fellow champion and Chopped host Ted Allen to raise awareness of childhood hunger in America. In the competition, chefs with a deep understanding of food insecurity made meals with kids and families in mind, as they shared their dishes and their stories about resilience.
Chefs and culinary professionals have always been on the frontline of our work, sharing their strengths through events, advocacy, fundraising and more.
One of the Chopped competitors – Micah Klasky – knows first-hand the power of service in and out of the kitchen. A top fundraiser for Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry over the past two years, Micah has also joined No Kid Hungry to advocate for child nutrition programs on Capitol Hill.
Chopped judge Marc Murphy, a longstanding member of the No Kid Hungry Leadership Council has made ending childhood hunger in the U.S. a personal passion, saying: “My dream is to be a big part of the solution. Anything I can do to help spread awareness on the issue of childhood hunger and how No Kid Hungry is working every day to make sure kids get the meals they need is an easy choice.”
Guest judge Cesar Zapata was inspired to get involved with No Kid Hungry from his own experience, sharing "My parents had two jobs to make sure that we had food. We still struggled, waking up and not being able to have breakfast." Read more about Cesar’s involvement with No Kid Hungry here.
Guest judge Brooke Williamson, who was recently honored for her commitment to No Kid Hungry at our Los Angeles No Kid Hungry Dinner, has spoken up for kids in the halls of Congress. Read more about Brooke’s involvement with No Kid Hungry here.
