Blackbaud Data Breach and Our Donors

We want you to know about a recent event that has impacted No Kid Hungry. The technology provider Blackbaud experienced an unauthorized data breach in May that has affected a large number of organizations, including Share Our Strength, which runs the No Kid Hungry campaign. The situation is now resolved, and as you will read below, we have no reason to believe our donors’ financial information was compromised. We’re sharing this information so our donors are aware of what happened.

On July 16, 2020, Blackbaud notified us of a global security incident that they discovered in May of 2020 that involved a large number of organizations worldwide, including Share Our Strength. Our donors’ names, mailing addresses and other donor information may have been accessed in this incident. After working with the FBI’s cybercrimes team, Blackbaud assured us and stated publicly that the cyberattack did not access user names, passwords, credit card information, bank account information, or Social Security numbers, and that any accessed data has been destroyed. You can learn more about the incident on Blackbaud’s website.

Based on Blackbaud’s representations of their involvement with law enforcement and our own investigation into the attack, we do not believe our donor information was ever made publicly available. We recommend that you always monitor for improper use of your personal information and, in the unlikely event that you encounter suspicious activity that you believe is linked to this incident, immediately report it to local law enforcement.

We value your trust as we work together to help feed kids. We carefully select the vendors with whom we work. Given the prevalence of cyberattacks today, we believe Blackbaud, as one of the largest providers in this space, has the resources and expertise to be able to respond quickly and effectively when such attacks occur.
