8/6/25, WASHINGTON, DC — The Senate has passed the first set of its annual appropriations bills for FY2026, including funding for the U.S. Department of Agriculture which administers the federal nutrition programs. Both chambers still need to pass identical bills before it goes to the President’s desk. The following is a statement from Claire Borzner, Director for Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign:
“Our federal nutrition programs play an indispensable role connecting kids and families with the food they need. This Senate bill fully funds WIC so that all eligible families can receive these nutritious benefits and ensures the Cash Value Benefit can keep helping families buy more fruits and vegetables. This bill also provides key support for school nutrition programs. We commend the Senate for protecting these critical programs and urge the House to also approve this funding.
“This appropriations bill, however, is just a starting point. Millions of families are still at a greater risk of hunger because of the disastrous cuts to SNAP recently signed into law. Congress has the power to undo these cuts and pursue bipartisan reforms that strengthen SNAP so it better serves the nearly 16 million kids who participate. The best path forward is through a new Farm Bill that invests in our farmers, families and rural communities by strengthening SNAP to ensure no kid goes hungry.”
