NEW YORK, NY – No Kid Hungry brought together business leaders, chefs, advocates, and supporters on May 6 for a powerful day of action in New York City. The day began with a “No Kid Hungry Takeover” of the New York Stock Exchange and ringing the Closing Bell, culminating with a one-of-a-kind dinner at The Glasshouse in NYC. At the dinner, No Kid Hungry honored Macy’s, Inc. Chairman and CEO Tony Spring with its No Kid Hungry Corporate Leader award for his longstanding support of its mission, and his leadership in mobilizing Macy’s industry partners in the fight to end childhood hunger. Award-winning journalist, NYT bestselling author, TV host, Founder of birthFUND Elaine Welteroth was also honored during the evening’s festivities, receiving the No Kid Hungry Champion award for her work at birthFUND and using her platform to advance issues that support moms and help make No Kid Hungry a reality, most recently serving as an ambassador for its Mother’s Day initiative.
The event raised a record-breaking total of $1.8 million to further No Kid Hungry’s mission of ending childhood hunger in the U.S.
Guests were treated to an unforgettable dining experience brought to life by chef co-chairs Amanda Cohen, chef and owner of Dirt Candy and Ci Siamo Executive Chef Hillary Sterling alongside wine chair Thomas Pastuzak. The multi-course dinner was prepared tableside and paired with exceptional wines by world-renowned culinary talent who donated their time all in support of the No Kid Hungry campaign, including JJ Johnson, Junghyun Park, Missy Robbins and more here. The celebration brought together leaders across industries alongside renowned chefs, advocates, celebrities and media personalities, all united around a shared goal: connecting kids to meals and strengthening programs that help families access food year-round.
The star-studded guest list included acclaimed businesswoman, model, and designer Lauren Bush Lauren; TV host and political commentator S.E. Cupp; famed restaurateur Danny Meyer; actor, producer and performer Hugh Jackman and more.
“Every child in this country deserves reliable access to the nutritious food they need to learn and thrive,” said Anne Filipic, CEO of Share Our Strength, the organization behind No Kid Hungry. “We’re grateful to leaders like Tony Spring and Elaine Welteroth, and to the entire community that came together in New York City, for helping drive real and practical solutions that ensure kids and families can access meals every day.”
Throughout the evening, guests heard how No Kid Hungry works with schools, community organizations, and state leaders to protect and expand access to proven programs like school meals, summer nutrition and SNAP, which help families stretch their budgets and keep kids nourished.
“I grew up in New York and my first job was at a fast food restaurant, where I learned early on the values of humanity, community and hard work," said Tony Spring, Chairman and CEO of Macy’s, Inc. “Those experiences shaped how I think about opportunity. I’m proud to support No Kid Hungry’s efforts and bring others along to help connect kids and families with the resources they need, because no child can reach their full potential without reliable access to food.”
“I’m honored to be recognized by No Kid Hungry for the work we’re doing at birthFUND to support mothers and families beyond childbirth.” said Elaine Welteroth, Award-winning journalist, NYT bestselling author, TV host, Founder of birthFUND. “Through initiatives like BF100, we’re addressing the full range of needs that shape maternal health—from access to nutritious food to housing and economic stability—because when mothers are supported holistically, kids, families, communities, and economies all benefit. That’s why this work and supporting No Kid Hungry matters so deeply.”
As 14 million children across the United States face hunger, No Kid Hungry remains focused on practical income boosting solutions that make a difference for families, like increasing school meal access, supporting meal programs over the summer, advocating for an expanded Child Tax Credit and strengthening food access in communities nationwide.
