New Orleans, LA - No Kid Hungry joined forces today with the New Orleans Saints to serve up summertime fun for elementary school aged kids at A.L. Davis Park in New Orleans, while drumming up awareness and excitement around the summer meals program.

After enjoying a nutritious lunch, part of the nationwide program that provides no-cost meals for kids and teens during the summer months, children had the opportunity to throw a football with former Saints’ Wide Receiver Devery Henderson who was named last week to the Saints’ Hall of Fame. A DJ spun tunes while kids practiced their dance moves with the Saints’ Cheer Krewe, decorated their own masquerade masks and took photos with Gumbo and Sir Saint.

“Summer should be a time of fun for kids, and today we got to see that in action here in New Orleans,” said Henderson. “Kids also need to be able to count on consistent meals to fuel their active lives while school is out for the summer. Summer meals provide that, and they’re available all across Louisiana.”

No Kid Hungry’s summer meals texting service makes it quick and easy for families to find meals for their kids during the summer months. Parents, grandparents and caregivers can simply text ‘FOOD’ or ‘COMIDA’ to 304-304 to find free summer meals in their community.

“We want all our children to be able to focus on being kids, and that means not having to spend the summer months worrying where their next meal will come from,” said No Kid Hungry Louisiana Director Rhonda Jackson. “Summer meals provide that consistent source of nutrition during the summertime, which means kids can return to school in the fall healthy and ready to learn.”

During the school year, kids can rely on school programs like breakfast, lunch and afterschool meals. But when school is out, many of those critical meals disappear, making summer the hungriest time of the year for kids and teens. Summer meal programs help fill that gap. No Kid Hungry partners with schools and community organizations across Louisiana to connect kids to the food they need in the summertime.

The event was made possible, in part, due to the generous support of the New Orleans Saints and TABASCOⓇ Brand.
