No Kid Hungry is a campaign of Share Our Strength, an organization working to end hunger and poverty.
Almost all of Share Our Strength's grants go to programs in the United States through No Kid Hungry. But the organization was originally founded in response to an international crisis — the 1984 famine in Ethiopia — and we continue to help groups around the world feeding kids living with hunger during times of crisis or natural disaster.
Our most significant international effort to date is underway in India, where we are working closely with multiple NGO partners including Akshaya Patra, the world’s largest school meals provider. Every day, some of our implementation partners address morning hunger by providing morning nutrition or breakfast, while others serve hot, nutritious midday meals to millions of public-school children.
Besides Akshaya Patra, the network of local nonprofit partners we fund and collaborate with include Annamrita, Annapoorna, The Breakfast Revolution and Lok Biradari Prakalp — each contributing unique expertise in education, nutrition and logistics.
Looking ahead, we are actively exploring opportunities to expand our international work to other regions with significant unmet needs, including Kenya and Mexico.
Share Our Strength India: A National Campaign to Feed 1 Million Children by 2030
India has the world’s largest school meals system, but over 100 million children still don’t receive the nutrition they need to learn, grow and thrive.
Through our No Kid Hungry campaign, Share Our Strength has connected children in the U.S. to over 3 billion meals and mobilized hundreds of millions of dollars to fight childhood hunger. Now, because addressing international hunger has always been our mission, we are bringing that model to India, where the potential is even greater.
Childhood hunger in India is widespread:
- 1 in 2 girls is malnourished
- 1 in 3 boys is malnourished
- 1 in 5 children are underweight at birth

Malnutrition has lifelong consequences for India’s children and its future workforce. No child can learn, grow and thrive without healthy food, every day.
Our Mission: Feed 1 Million+ Children Daily by 2030
We’re launching a national movement to connect 1 million additional children in India to nutritionally adequate daily school meals — including breakfast, fortified foods and programs reaching out-of-school children.
We’ve already built the foundation to achieve this vision. To date, we've:
- Helped feed 170,00 kids and served morning nutrition to ~400,000 more
- Helped deliver 24+ million meals to kids in India
- Opened a kitchen in central India with 20,000 meals per day capacity, and have another planned for 50,000 more
- Built partnerships with top Indian NGOs and culinary professionals
- Begun operating a legal entity raising and granting funds locally
Your Role in Ending Child Hunger in India

Hunger in Our Backyard and the World
No Kid Hungry is the only national campaign committed to ending childhood hunger in the U.S. From 2010 to the start of the coronavirus pandemic, through a combination of emergency grants, strategic assistance, advocacy and awareness, we helped reduce childhood hunger in our nation by one third.
We have sent tens of millions in emergency relief to thousands of schools and community organizations feeding kids. We’re also advocating with elected officials for increased SNAP benefits.
Child hunger is a problem we can solve, together. Join us to continue supporting kids today, tomorrow and for generations to come.
