How We Compensate Our Top Executives

Our two highest-paid executives are Billy Shore, our founder and executive chairman, and Tom Nelson, our president and CEO. Last year, Billy was paid $417,000 and Tom was paid $439,000.

The board of directors of Share Our Strength - the nonprofit organization that runs the No Kid Hungry campaign - determines Billy’s and Tom’s compensation. (Note: Debbie Shore, the co-founder of Share Our Strength and member of our executive team, is Billy Shore’s sister.)

We know executive compensation is important to our donors, and that's why we're transparent on the subject. That information is publicly available via our IRS Form 990 filing, which is available on our website, and also through various nonprofit watchdog sites. We have a perfect four-star rating for accountability and transparency from Charity Navigator, the nation's premier evaluator of charitable organizations.

It's also important to us that our donors understand those numbers in the proper context. The No Kid Hungry campaign has hundreds of staff across the country, supporting state and local programs in all 50 states. We work with governors, state and federal lawmakers, companies of all sizes and people from a wide array of communities. We raise and invest tens of millions of dollars every year to feed children, and our impact speaks for itself: we have helped provide more than a billion meals to children living with hunger.

The No Kid Hungry campaign depends on a vast network of people, including our committed donors and supporters, to achieve the impressive results we’ve achieved in the past few years. Recruiting and retaining highly-skilled, talented executives and employees is an important part of our success.
