Washington, D.C. - Today, a federal judge in New York issued a temporary nationwide injunction blocking implementation of the Administration’s Public Charge Rule, which would restrict immigration based on use or potential use of public benefits like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The following is a statement from Share Our Strength Senior Vice President Lisa Davis:

“No family should have to choose between the people they love and their basic needs. This injunction is good news for millions of families and children.

Share Our Strength strongly opposes the Administration's Public Charge rule, which would force low-income legal immigrant families to make impossible choices between preserving their immigration status and food and housing security for their kids.

When we make sure all of our nation’s children are nourished, housed and cared for, it creates a stronger society where children thrive and communities prosper. This rule is a big step backward and we urge the White House to withdraw it.”
