Washington, DC - Today, a bipartisan group of Congressional lawmakers released a summary of their proposal for a new COVID-19 relief package -- the Bipartisan Emergency COVID Relief Act of 2020. This proposal includes critical nutrition assistance for millions of struggling Americans. The following is a statement from Share Our Strength Senior Vice President Lisa Davis:

“We are encouraged by this bipartisan showing of support to strengthen the nutrition programs that will help feed vulnerable children and their families during this crisis. This is an important first step in helping families who are facing extreme hardship who need support right now. While we know more will need to be done to address the record-high rates of hunger, this proposal provides critical, immediate relief. We are especially pleased that the proposal includes an investment in a temporary 15% increase in SNAP benefits through April.

Because of the COVID crisis, 1 in 4 kids could face hunger and millions of families are experiencing the hungriest holiday season in memory. We urge Congress to support this proposal and pass legislation before the end of the year, because standing in long food lines in the winter is not a solution. Hungry children can’t wait
a moment longer.”
