WASHINGTON – Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott is making an historic $70 million gift to Share Our Strength and its No Kid Hungry campaign to help end childhood hunger in the United States. This marks Scott’s second investment in Share Our Strength, underscoring confidence in the organization and its mission. The following is a statement from Anne Filipic, chief executive officer for Share Our Strength:

“MacKenzie Scott’s gifts are rooted in trust and autonomy, so receiving a gift of this size—and being selected a second time—is an incredible seal of approval. We are grateful for this vote of confidence in our core strategies, partnerships, staff and the urgency of this moment.

This gift comes at a time of unprecedented need with our nation’s safety net being purposefully decimated. Millions of Americans risk permanently losing SNAP benefits due to nearly $200 billion in cuts - the largest in the program’s history. And while the headwinds are strong, this gift seeds our plan to build a permanent path to end childhood hunger in the United States. Alongside the thousands of individual donations we rely on to maintain our efforts and strategy, it enables us to act faster and boldly pursue immediate impact and lasting change for our nation’s kids.

We know what it takes to ensure children have access to meals and nutrition programs year-round and build pathways to family financial stability. This gift gives us the opportunity to scale existing solutions, and adapt to the changing needs of kids and families today and tomorrow.

We are grateful to MacKenzie Scott for her shared vision of a future where every child has the food they need to thrive.”
