LOS ANGELES – On Saturday, April 11th, No Kid Hungry, a national campaign to end childhood hunger in America, and its supporters gathered for Night Out for No Kid Hungry at The Rolling Greens in Downtown Los Angeles. Bringing together two of the city’s most celebrated culinary events for a cause, guests enjoyed a one-of-a-kind dining experience at The Dinner with Emmy-Nominated Actor, Comedian and Producer Anthony Anderson as emcee or experienced The Tasting, a lively sampling event featuring the most-sought after culinary creations from LA’s top chefs and mixologists. At The Dinner, Dr. Maribel Garcia, Superintendent of El Monte City School District was honored for her outstanding contributions to feeding kids in California. The evening concluded with The After Party, hosted by Celebrity Chefs Duff Goldman and Michael Voltaggio, featuring sweet treats from the city’s top pastry chefs as well as moving and electrifying musical performances by Singer-Songwriter, Oscar-Nominated, Grammy Award and Golden Globe Winning Actress Andra Day, Rapper and Producer Warren G and DJ and Co-Founder of Pangea Sound SuperNova.
Other notable Night Out for No Kid Hungry attendees included: Adam Shapiro and spouse Katie Lowes, Blair Imani, Brian Dobbins, Rocsi Diaz, Sara Gilbert, Sarah Jane Morris, Shaun Cassidy and Todd Grinnell.
"I'm just a kid from Compton who had a dream. I believe all kids deserve to dream big and be who they want to be, but that starts with access to one basic thing: food, said Anthony Anderson, Emmy-nominated actor, comedian and producer. "Night Out for No Kid Hungry is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together to support our nation’s kids."
"Food unites us as people and the same is true with music. It's a universal language, creating a sense of community, common humanity and love - all things that are essential in this work to end childhood hunger," said Andra Day, singer-songwriter, Oscar-nominated, Grammy award and Golden Globe winning actress. "It was an honor to perform at Night Out for No Kid Hungry and celebrate the power of a shared promise to make No Kid Hungry a reality."
The evening’s culinary festivities were brought to life by award-winning chef chairs Brooke Williamson, Executive Chef and Owner of Playa Provisions; Mei Lin, Chef and Founder Umamei; and Melissa King, Chef and Author of Cook Like a King and winner of Top Chef All-Stars: Los Angeles, alongside beverage chair Michael Page, beverage development manager and mixologist of Breakthrough Beverages. These culinary chairs worked in partnership with other critically-acclaimed and world-renowned culinary legends who donated their time to prepare the exceptional multi-course dining experience at The Dinner, including Shirley Chung of Night Rooster; Michael Mina of Mina Group; Ludo Lefebvre of Petit Trois; Dominique Crenn of Monsieur Dior; and Alex Hong of Sorrel Restaurant.
"Our passion for food and feeding people extends to our entire community and every kid in America living with hunger," said Brooke Williamson, chef, restaurateur and cookbook author. "No matter what style of cooking, something that's true for chefs is the drive to roll up our sleeves and problem-solve. Childhood hunger is solvable and that’s what makes uniting together at Night Out for No Kid Hungry so meaningful."
Those who attended The Tasting experienced the best bites and beverages from over 50 of the best chefs, restaurateurs, tastemakers, and mixologists in LA and around the country, from the Voltaggio Brothers Steakhouse to Jitlada’s bold-flavored southern Thai cuisine, giving attendees the unique opportunity to indulge in the best of California’s dynamic culinary scene and every style of cuisine in one unique evening.
