Every morning before I head out the door, I eat a filling breakfast. As I step outside and face the day, I feel ready for the day's challenges - assignments, class work, after-school activities. A nutritious start to the day should be guaranteed for every kid in America, right? Unfortunately, it's not.
Nearly 16 million kids in America are at risk of hunger. Daily, these children have to deal with problems that most of us don't even think about - the uncertainty that comes from not knowing when they’ll get their next meal.
This is why I was so eager to get involved with the No Kid Hungry campaign. It's heart- warming to know that I can make a difference in a child's life.
The No Kid Hungry campaign connects kids in need to the food and nutrition programs that can help. It teaches kids and their parents how to cook nutritious food on a budget and it helps bring people from all walks of life together to end childhood hunger in their communities.
And kids play an important role too. The weekend of September 6th –9th, we’ll all join together for GO ORANGE FOR NO KID HUNGRY and use social media to spread the word about ways to help end childhood hunger.
So get started now by making plans for you and your friends at school, in your neighborhood or your team or club, to wear orange September 6-9. Then take a photo and send it to Share Our Strength at email@example.com, post it to Facebook or tweet using #GoOrange hashtag. And if you’re really inspired, enter the essay contest with cash prizes by answering the question: “Why is ending childhood hunger in America important to you?”
