Share Our Strength - FY 2010 ExpensesAt Share Our Strength, we’re focused on maximizing every donation to help ensure that as many kids as possible have access to healthy food where they live, learn and play.

In 2014, Share Our Strength transitioned to a new fiscal year. To facilitate this shift, the first 6-months of the 2014 calendar year were considered a shortened fiscal year for financial reporting and audit purposes. This page reflects our financial activities from this shortened fiscal year - January 1, 2014 through June 30, 2014.

In fiscal year 2014 (shortened fiscal year), Share Our Strength had total operating expenses of $20.3 million deployed in pursuit of ending childhood hunger in America. Approximately 70%—$14.1 million—of these expenses were invested in the No Kid Hungry programming to end childhood hunger.

These investments, which have contributed to more than 345 million meals served to kids in need and other milestones, are made possible thanks to targeted investments in fundraising of $4.4 million, which make up 22% of our expenses.  In order to end childhood hunger in this country, solutions need to be scaled quickly; our fundraising spend reflects the urgent need to expand our work to reach as many kids as quickly as possible across our country.

The remaining $1.7 million or 8% of expenses cover overhead expenses such as general and financial management, human resources and technology.

While this shortened fiscal year shows a deficit, Share Our Strength has a history of realizing surpluses (e.g., additions to net assets) during a typical 12-month fiscal year. The significant decrease in Share Our Strength’s unrestricted net assets during the reporting period of January 1 through June 30, 2014, is due primarily to the shortened six month reporting period.  Historically, the majority of Share Our Strength’s unrestricted revenue and support is raised and recognized during the July through December reporting period.  We anticipate that this will continue to occur following the transition to a new fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) pending any unusual business circumstances or material external factors.  Please check back at the end of December 2015 for our new Annual Report which will reflect our updated financials for the new 12 month fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015).
