Changes to existing nutrition programs could help more kids

The Washington Post explores how small tweaks to existing policies could make a big difference for poor families. One important change is how summer meals are served. As No Kid Hungry’s Lucy Melcher points out,  some kids aren’t able to access meals in the summer because they don’t have the means to get to a summer meals site. Summer meals are required to be provided to kids on-site, which poses a huge barrier for rural communities. Less than a fifth of the low-income kids eligible for summer lunch in the U.S. actually receive it.
