LAUSD collaborates with parents to improve nutritious breakfast program

As part of implementing breakfast in the classroom in Los Angeles, some schools are engaging parents as well. “While children are being fed healthier food at school, parent education and participation is an important part of changing eating habits. At Euclid Elementary, parent engagement has been a priority. The school has a parent center and community representatives that do outreach and workshops to help teach parents how to adopt a healthier food culture at home. 'When we first started Breakfast in the Classroom, we had a meeting to talk to parents and explain to them what we needed from them and to help us,' principal Torres said. 'We had an overwhelming amount of parents that came to help us.'”
