Katherine Van Steenburgh

Manager and Producer, Content Development and Storytelling

Katherine grew up in Houston, Texas. In 2005 she graduated from film school at the University of Southern California, worked for the writing staff of ABC’s Grey Anatomy. In 2006, her desire to serve in a third world county led her to Managua, Nicaragua. There she worked with Manna Project International in the city dump community, LA Chureca. Managua is still her home away from home. After that time in Nicaragua, she moved to Washington, DC with a desire to combine storytelling and non-profit work. For the last two years, at Share Our Strength, she has been able to lead Hinges of Hope trips and help tell the story of hunger in America. She has recently relocated to Louisville, KY. Besides storytelling, anything imaginative, and photography, she also loves making pies, gardens, and hiking up waterfalls.

School Meals

Many of us have found memories when we hear the phrase, “Snow Day”, but for kids at risk of hunger this phrase means something entirely different. Two teachers explain what this means to some of their students:

School Meals

Does in-classroom breakfast really make a difference? I know a classroom of 7th graders who would say, “YES”.

Summer Meals

A few weeks ago, a team from Share Our Strength traveled throughout the state of Connecticut visiting summer meal sites, meeting inspiring leaders, and seeing the kids and families served by these programs.
